harvest

Cork is a vegetal material coming from a tree from the oak family. The Cork-oak tree, Quercus Suber in Latin, is mainly found in Mediterranean countries.
Portugal (80% of production) and Spain (15%) are the main producers due to their advantageous weather conditions (temperate winter and dry summer).

harvesting in Portugal

Maior sobreiro do mundo

The Cork-oak tree can live 200 years. The precious cork, taken from the tree's bark, can only be harvested after the tree reaches maturity at 30 years. The cork is then taken by carefully removing a portion of the tree's bark. Cork can then be harvested every 9 to 15 years; the long-term health of the tree ensures the availability of this natural renewable product.

one of the oldest cork-oak tree in the world (212 year old)
